Junior Master Title

Chess Power Junior Master Title

The Junior Master Title is difficult to achieve and quite prestigous. When a player achieves the Junior Master Title, they are recognised in a special ceremony following the event and awarded with a framed certificate recognising the title.

From then on, the player retains the Junior Master title, and the initials JM appear after their name on all Chess Power events and also online.

The new Junior Master is also invited to special events such as simultaneous exhibitions, exclusive strong tournaments and also enters the Chess Power Hall of Fame.

Chess Power Junior Master norm

In order to qualify for the title of Junior Master of chess, a player must achieve three or more Junior Candidate Master norms.

A norm is simply a level of achievement in a tournament.

A norm in chess is one of the requirements to receive a title such as Grandmaster from FIDE, the world governing body of Chess.

In addition to achieving the Junior Candidate Master norms, the following criteria must be met;

  • The average rating of the players opponents must be greater than 1200
  • The players individual rating must be greater than 1400
  • The performance rating of 1700 must be achieved
  • the tournament must be played over a minimum of nine rounds, with no less than 25 minutes thinking time per round.
