What do you think makes you a good coach?

A great coach is someone who not only recognizes an individual's strengths and areas for improvement, but also nurtures their growth—both on and off the chessboard. I strive to create a positive and supportive environment where students feel encouraged, challenged, and inspired.

Why do you love chess?

Chess, to me, is more than just a game—it’s a way of life that cultivates:

  • Discipline

  • Strategic thinking

  • Deep focus

Each game presents a new challenge and a new opportunity to learn and grow.

What are your key strengths?

  • Leadership: I enjoy guiding and motivating others.

  • Mentorship: I take pride in supporting students' development, both in chess and beyond.

  • Commitment to self-growth: I believe that to teach well, you must also keep learning.

When/how did you first learn to play?

I discovered my passion for chess in fourth grade, and I’ve been captivated by it ever since. What started as a fun game soon became a meaningful pursuit that continues to shape how I think and make decisions.

Why do you enjoy working with kids?

Working with children is especially rewarding. Their natural curiosity and creativity are qualities I deeply admire and aim to foster. I love seeing kids become more confident, focused, and thoughtful as they develop their skills.

How do you think chess helps kids?

Chess empowers young minds to:

  • Think independently

  • Make thoughtful, strategic decisions

  • Build confidence, patience, and resilience

These are skills that serve children not only during a match, but also in the classroom and throughout life.
