Term 3 Combined Online Regionals (Rotorua Jr, Rotorua Int/Snr, Tauranga, Hamilton Jr, Hamilton Int/Snr)

Due to the Covid-19 developments which has resulted in the cancellation of the Rotorua (Junior), Rotorua (Intermediate/Senior), Tauranga, Hamilton (Junior) & Hamilton (Intermediate/Senior) Regionals as on-site tournaments, we have combined the tournaments as an online tournament.

The combined tournament will be played online on:  Friday, 10 September

Tournaments included:

  • Term 3 Rotorua (Junior)
  • Term 3 Rotorua (Intermediate/Senior)
  • Term 3 Tauranga
  • Term 3 Hamilton (Junior)
  • Term 3 Hamilton (Intermediate/Senior)

Please make sure to read through the 'Registering Teams' tutorial which also explains how to enter and connect on the day.

Online Tournaments:

  • Each player MUST register/create a login on the Tornelo website and all players MUST be registered for the tournament.
  • Each player will need their own device (Laptop, iPad or Tablet)
  • Go to our ONLINE TOURNAMENTS page to learn how to connect to the tournament.

Further information:

  • Designed for new players and experienced alike
  • All the rules are described before the tournament starts
  • Enter as many players as you wish. The more that enter the stronger your school team
  • PARENTS can make payment through Tornelo (entry website)
  • SCHOOLS will be sent an invoice after the event, based on the number of players that attend.
    • Fees are $15 per player inclusive of GST payable 2 weeks following the event
    • Special dispensations are available for low decile schools
      • Decile 1 & Decile 2 schools - fees are just $5 per player
      • Decile 3 & Decile 4 schools - fees are just $10 per player
    • A new rookies division for complete beginners (years 1-6 only) - fees are just $5 per player regardless of school decile

Prizes:

Medals & badges will be sent to host schools, listed below. These can be collected 2 weeks after the tournaments has taken place.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

Start Time: 9:00am
Finish Time: 2:15pm

Login 8:45am
Welcome 9:00am - 9:30am
Farewell 1:30pm - 2:00pm

Format

7 Round Swiss. 15 minutes per player. Refer to our Regionals FAQ for more details.

Venue: Online

Online events are run using two platforms:

  • Zoom for video/audio communications
  • Tornelo for chess games

To prepare for this event you will need:

  • access to a device with internet access
  • a web camera
  • a microphone

As we lead up to the event you will be sent a communication with the links for both Zoom and Tornelo.

IMPORTANT please go to our ONLINE EVENT RULES page and make sure you familiarize yourself with the online event rules whether playing at school or at home.
