Champions Trophy pathway

The Journey to the Individual National Championship

The Champions Trophy is Chess Power’s premier individual national competition. It brings together top-performing students from across New Zealand to compete for national titles in both Onsite and Online events.

Players qualify through official pathway events held throughout the year. These events recognise performance, consistency, and competitive achievement — providing multiple routes for students to earn their place on the national stage.

Whether competing in person or online, every pathway leads to the same destination: the Champions Trophy.

How to Qualify

After You Qualify

Once a player earns qualification through an approved pathway event, they will receive an official Champions Trophy invitation.

Qualified players:

• May enter the Champions Trophy Onsite Tournament
• May enter the Champions Trophy Online Tournament
• Choose which tournament best suits their schedule and preference
• Must complete registration by the published deadline

The Champions Trophy is an invitation-only national championship.
