An invitation only event for qualifying school TEAMS from around the country!

The online event will run along side the onsite event for schools who aren't able to attend onsite.
  • Schools are able to enter a team into the online tournament AND into the onsite tournament. E.g. if your school has qualified 5 spots, you can enter a team of 5 each in both the online and onsite team nationals.
  • Should a school choose to enter both tournaments, a FULL team must be registered for each tournament (minimum of 4 players). For example, you cannot enter 2 students into the online tournament and 3 students into the onsite tournament.

Team Qualifiers 2026

The qualifiers list (for each division) includes the maximum allowed size of your team for the National Finals. Note: Schools must enter a minimum of 4 players. Schools can enter up to the maximum spots they have qualified for.


Online Registration

  • Registration is done via the Tornelo system

  • IMPORTANT: go to our ONLINE EVENT RULES page for online event rules.
  • Students will need to sign in to Tornelo using the same login details that they were registered with.
  • Each player will need their own device (Laptop, iPad or Tablet).
  • All players will be required to keep their cameras on throughout the tournament.
  • The DEADLINE to register is Friday 25th September 2026. No late registrations will be accepted!

Entry Fees

The fee for the Online Team Nationals is $210 + GST per team - you will be sent an invoice leading up to the event.

Format

  • The event will be run using a "Swiss Format"
  • This format ensures that all students will play against players of a similar standard; we expect both novice players and experts to enjoy a fun, learning and social experience.
  • All players play 9 games, regardless if they win or lose.
  • Time control of 15 minutes per player with no bonus.

  • You must send a minimum of four players up to the stated maximum number of places you have qualified for (as per the qualifiers list).
  • A school can qualify a maximum of 8 players for the Team Nationals.

  • This year there will be no Junior Master titles awarded at the Online Team National Finals (as well as the Online Champions Trophy).
  • Each school must provide parents or teachers (minimum 1 per each 15 students) who are responsible for supervision of participants for the duration of the event. See the Terms & Conditions page for more information.

      Venue: Online

      Online events are run using two platforms:

      • Zoom for video/audio communications
      • Tornelo for chess games

      To prepare for this event you will need:

      • access to a device with internet access
      • a web camera
      • a microphone

      As we lead up to the event you will be sent a communication with the links for both Zoom and Tornelo.

      IMPORTANT please go to our ONLINE EVENT RULES page and make sure you familiarize yourself with the online event rules whether playing at school or at home.
