Auckland Regionals are Chess Power’s main interschool tournaments in Auckland. They run twice each year (Term 2 and Term 3) during school hours, and they are the primary pathway for schools to qualify for Team Nationals and the Champions Trophy.

Step 1: Find Your Zone
Primary Schools (Years 1–6)
Auckland primary school Regionals are split into four zones: North, West, Central, and South/East.
Intermediate (Years 7–8) and Senior (Years 9–13)
Intermediate and Senior schools have one Auckland Regional event per term, and all schools are part of the same zone.
Step 2: Choose Your Event Date

Step 3: Register Your Students
Registration is completed via the Tornelo system, and all entries must be entered at least three working days before the event.
When you are ready to register, click a date that will work for you above and then click Register Now.
Key limits and rules:
- Maximum 15 players per school across all divisions (you may split players into as many teams as you like as long as there are a minimum of four players in each team).
- You can compete out-of-zone, but if you do, entries are limited to 8 players total for that out-of-zone event.
If you get stuck, contact details are listed on each event page.
On the Day: Supervision
Each school must provide supervising adults (minimum 1 adult per 15 students) for the duration of the event. It can be teachers or parents.
Quick Tip for Schools
Most Auckland schools choose their zone event in Term 2, then use Term 3 as an extra opportunity to:
- gain more tournament experience, and/or
- compete out-of-zone (within the limits), and/or
- build depth for Nationals qualification.
