Tournament Format
Quick guide: Under 600 = Pawns | 600–899 = Knights | 900+ = Rooks
The Auckland Sarapu Cup is split into three divisions so players compete against others at a similar level. Divisions are based on Chess Power Rating (CPR), which you can check by searching your name on Tornelo (our tournament management system).
Pawns Division
The Pawns Division is for players who are new to chess and are still taking their first steps. We recommend this division for players with a Chess Power Rating below 600. If this is your first chess tournament, we recommend you play in the Pawns Division even if you have been playing chess for some time.
Knights Division
The Knights Division is for players who have gained some confidence in chess — perhaps played in a number of tournaments — but aren’t established players yet. We recommend this division for players with a Chess Power Rating of 600 to 899.
Rooks Division
The Rooks Division is designed for established players who are confident and experienced. We recommend the Rooks Division for players with a Chess Power Rating of 900 or more.
Prizes & Recognition
Trophies for top performers in each division Medals for age-group awards Certificates for all players Chess Power Badges earned for task milestones Brain Challenges available on the day to earn additional recognition Pathway to qualify for the Nationals Champions Trophy
