What do you think makes you a good coach?

I consider myself a good coach because I am patient, attentive, and committed to helping each student reach their potential. I break strategies into simple, understandable steps and make sure every child feels confident before moving on. I also foster a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.

What are your key strengths?

My key strengths are clear communication, making learning fun, patience, and adaptability. I engage students of all ages and skill levels, making lessons interactive and enjoyable. I also bring strong organisational skills, ensuring lessons are structured, progressive, and purposeful.

Why do you love chess?

I love chess because it combines creativity with strategy. Every opponent is unique, offering endless opportunities for growth and enjoyment. Chess sharpens focus, problem-solving, and decision-making, making it more than a game—it’s a powerful learning tool.

When/how did you first learn to play?

I learned chess as a child when my father introduced me to the game. From that first experience, I was fascinated by the power of each piece and how small decisions can change the outcome of the whole game. That early curiosity grew into a lifelong passion.

Why do you enjoy working with kids?

Working with kids is rewarding because they bring energy, curiosity, and creativity to every lesson. I love seeing the excitement when they discover a new tactic or win their first game. Helping them build focus, patience, and resilience—while having fun—is one of the most fulfilling parts of coaching.

What are your main chess achievements?

  • Won multiple school tournaments while representing my school.

  • Competed at inter-school level against strong players.

  • Developed advanced strategic skills, focus, and sportsmanship through competitive play.

How do you think chess helps kids?

Chess supports growth beyond the board. It improves memory, concentration, and problem-solving; teaches patience and resilience; and encourages thinking ahead before making decisions. Most importantly, chess builds confidence—children learn that with practice and effort, they can overcome challenges and achieve success.
