What do you think makes you a good coach?

What makes me a good coach is my holistic approach to chess. I focus not only on moves, but on understanding strategy, tactics, and how to analyse situations from multiple perspectives—much like we approach challenges in life. My goal is to build thinking skills, resilience, and confidence alongside chess ability.

Having grown up in a competitive chess family and learned from strong mentors, I combine deep technical knowledge with the ability to communicate clearly and inspire students.

What are your key strengths?

My key strengths are:

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strategic thinking

  • Tactical awareness

  • A competitive spirit and the will to win

  • The ability to analyse situations from different angles

These strengths help me guide students effectively—both in chess and in developing real-world decision-making skills.

Why do you love chess?

I love chess because it is a game of infinite possibilities. Every position presents new challenges and creative opportunities. Chess blends logic, creativity, psychology, discipline, and strategy in a way no other game does.

For me, it’s not just a game—it’s a lifelong intellectual companion that constantly challenges and sharpens the mind.

When/how did you first learn to play?

I first learned chess at the age of nine, when my mother introduced me to the game. I later received advanced training from my paternal grandfather and my father, both competitive chess players and administrators with the Delhi Chess Association (affiliated with the All India Chess Federation).

My early training at the Soviet Centre for Science, Culture and Art in New Delhi—where we learned from experienced players and occasionally visiting Russian grandmasters—deeply shaped my love and understanding of the game.

Why do you enjoy working with kids?

I enjoy working with kids because it allows me to pass on the knowledge, discipline, and life lessons I’ve gained through chess. Children are naturally curious and adaptable, and it’s rewarding to see them grow—not just as players, but as thinkers and decision-makers.

Helping them develop confidence and clarity through chess gives me immense satisfaction.

What are your main chess achievements?

  • State-level Under-14 Chess Champion

  • Represented my state at multiple national-level chess championships

  • FIDE-rated player

  • Current FIDE Standard Rating: 1590

How do you think chess helps kids?

Chess helps children develop far more than playing skills. It teaches:

  • Patience and discipline

  • Strategic and tactical thinking

  • Problem-solving ability

  • Decision-making under time pressure

  • Resilience in the face of setbacks

  • Focus and concentration

  • The ability to evaluate multiple possibilities before acting

Through chess, children learn life skills that extend well beyond the board.
