What do you think makes you a good coach?

I believe I am an honest and thoughtful coach when it comes to teaching others. I always try my best to identify a person’s strengths and weaknesses so that we can work together on areas for improvement. I think good teaching often comes from someone who is not afraid to challenge the status quo, because by getting to the underlying issues, we can help others become the best version of themselves.

What are your key strengths?

I am quite sociable and can become very talkative once I settle into a new environment, which I think is important for creating a welcoming and supportive learning atmosphere. I am also passionate about chess, and I enjoy encouraging others to play, learn, and improve at this fascinating game.

Why do you love chess?

I think one of the things that draws me to chess is the feeling of outsmarting your opponent. I enjoy winning a chess match through my own thinking, strategy, and tactics, because I know that victory comes from my own effort and decision-making. I also believe the thrill of competition is important in life, as it often pushes people to improve themselves.

When and how did you first learn to play?

I first learned to play chess in primary school, when my cousin introduced me to the game. I was captivated almost immediately, and my interest in chess grew quickly from there.

Why do you enjoy working with kids?

I want to be a positive role model for kids. Working with children pushes me out of my comfort zone, while also motivating me to become the best version of myself. I want the kids I work with to feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely excited about what they are doing.

How do you think chess helps kids?

I believe chess helps children develop critical thinking skills above all else. A chess game can shift from simple to highly complex in just a few moves, which teaches kids to think ahead, plan carefully, and adapt their strategy. This is valuable because it gives them exposure to forward thinking and problem-solving, while also helping to build the habit of planning ahead.
