What do you think makes you a good coach?

I am patient and compassionate, and I genuinely care about the people I work with. I try to recognise the potential in every student and create a positive environment where they feel supported, encouraged and confident to learn.

What are your key strengths?

ORGANISATION – I manage my time well, prepare carefully and make sure I am reliable and ready for each class.

KINDNESS – I treat every student with patience and respect, helping them feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

DEDICATION – I always try to go the extra mile to ensure students enjoy their lessons and receive the support they need to improve.

Why do you love chess?

I have enjoyed playing chess with friends since I was young. It challenges my mind and keeps me engaged, while also providing a great way to connect with people who share similar interests.

How did you first learn to play chess?

My dad introduced me to chess when I was nine years old. I later joined two different chess clubs and continued playing regularly until I moved away from home.

Why do you enjoy working with children?

I love seeing children happy, smiling and excited about learning. Knowing that I can make a positive difference in a young person’s life—even in a small way—is extremely rewarding.

What is your chess experience?

I represented my school in several chess tournaments when I was younger. Our school won a number of these events, and the experience taught me a great deal about teamwork, concentration and competing positively.

What can children learn through chess?

Chess develops critical thinking, concentration and the ability to plan ahead. It also teaches adaptability, as players must respond to unexpected moves and consider problems from several different perspectives. These are valuable skills that children can use both on and off the chessboard.
