I’m a passionate and supportive chess coach who loves helping young players grow their confidence, strategy, and sportsmanship. My goal is to connect with each child, understand their needs, and create a positive space where they feel encouraged to learn and try new ideas. I focus on breaking concepts down clearly, celebrating progress, and modelling calm, respectful behaviour before, during, and after games.
My strengths as a coach include patience, empathy, clear communication, and a strong sense of responsibility for the wellbeing and development of the group. I’ve played chess casually for many years and continue to grow my own skills so I can confidently guide players of all levels over time.
Chess has been a meaningful part of my life since I joined the Matipo Primary chess club at age eight, where I first experienced the excitement of learning the game in a fun, social environment. That early experience shaped my love for chess, and it’s a feeling I would be proud to pass on to the next generation.
I first learned chess through the Matipo Primary chess club when I was eight years old. It was a fun and social environment, and that’s where my love of the game began.
I enjoy working with kids because they bring curiosity and energy to every lesson. I love helping children feel supported and confident, and I aim to make each session engaging so they enjoy learning and exploring new ideas.
I see chess as an exceptional way to teach kids how to think ahead, plan strategically, adapt under pressure, and solve problems through skill rather than luck. Through my coaching, I aim to help children build confidence, resilience, strategic thinking, and healthy competition—skills that transfer both on and off the chessboard.
