My biggest strength is my genuine passion for helping others grow and succeed. I find real joy in seeing students improve and reach their potential. I focus on creating a positive, encouraging environment where students feel confident to learn, make mistakes, and keep progressing.
I also believe learning should be enjoyable, so I make sessions engaging and fun while still being purposeful. By combining clear guidance, positive feedback, and a supportive approach, I help students build both their skills and their confidence.
My key strengths as a coach include being patient and understanding, ensuring beginners feel comfortable and never rushed while learning. I explain chess concepts in a clear and simple way, breaking them down into easy steps so they’re straightforward to follow and apply.
I take a supportive and encouraging approach, using positive feedback to build confidence and celebrate progress. I also create fun, engaging lessons, making sure each session is enjoyable so learning chess feels exciting rather than overwhelming.
I love chess because it is a complex game that truly challenges the mind. Every game is different, which keeps it exciting and constantly engaging. I enjoy how it pushes you to stay focused, solve problems, and think ahead, while also rewarding patience and persistence.
I first learned to play chess at the age of seven, when my dad taught me the game. From that very first lesson, I was captivated. I cherish the memories of spending quality time with him—learning, playing, and sharing a passion for chess that has stayed with me throughout my life.
I enjoy working with kids because I love helping them discover their potential and seeing their confidence grow. Children bring energy, curiosity, and creativity to every session, which makes teaching fun and rewarding.
I find it satisfying to guide them through challenges, celebrate their progress, and watch them develop new skills. Being part of their learning journey—and seeing their excitement when they achieve something new—is what makes coaching so fulfilling.
One of my main chess achievements was joining a chess club at the age of seven, where I was the youngest member and the only female, with the next oldest players being teenagers. I took great pride in holding my own in that environment and even beating older, more experienced players. That experience built my confidence, strengthened my skills, and deepened my love for the game.
I have since gone on to play in tournaments, gaining an official New Zealand chess rating.
I believe chess helps kids develop important life skills in a fun and engaging way. It encourages them to think ahead, solve problems, and make thoughtful decisions. Through the game, they learn focus, patience, and resilience, especially when things don’t go their way.
Overall, chess supports their critical thinking, discipline, and ability to learn from mistakes—skills that benefit them both in and out of the classroom.
